Are You a Couch Potato?

A couch potato lifestyle is unhealthy because it increases the risk of chronic diseases and can negatively impact mental health too.

There is evidence indicating that if you move more and with “intention”, you can modify your risk factors for cardiovascular disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes!

Learn more about your body. Set positive goals for yourself, and then do it!

A wise woman once said …
A potato is a “root” vegetable, so as long as you don’t grow actual roots into the couch, you should be okay. Too much sofa spudding, however, can lead to deep leg pain due to poor circulation from lack of movement. Not good. Also if you’re torquing your head in a funny way to see the TV screen, you could end up with long-lasting neck and shoulder pain—perhaps requiring professional massage and chiropractic work. If you snack a lot while languishing on the lounger, there’s the possibility of weight gain, too. If you find yourself waking up in the morning, still planted on the couch with the Shepherd’s Chapel blaring out the 23rd psalm—you’ve probably overstayed your welcome, and your poor couch is in dire need of a break from the sight and weight of your sorry ass pressing into it’s weary cushions.”

Are healthcare providers and those you love trying to frighten you by saying all these uncomfortable words to you?

Here are some simple suggestions that you can think about as you eat that fried foods with all those extra additives, and or just sit for hours staring at that phone …

Try to find an activity that you enjoy doing like walking, biking, swimming, or going to the gym, and then do it.

Start slowly and gradually increase your time and intensity.

Spread your activity over the week, rather than just the weekends.

You might even learn something about your body and discover that it isn’t that difficult to avoid all the “nasties” of our world.
